I'm happy to announce that the BP-U65 battery for the Sony FS7 professional video camera will extend sales on
Amazon.jp through July 2015.
This battery works with the following cameras:
PXW-FS7, PMW-280, PMW-260, PMW-160, PMW-100, PMW-200 , PMW-F3, PMW-EX1, PMW-EX3,PMW-EX3R,PMW-F3K

BP-U65 vs Sony BP-GL95A battery

Michael Goldberg had a used Sony BP-GL95 battery ($599.00 … new) which he kindly tested against the BP-U65 battery and the 2 batteries tested out to be about the same length in use on an Ikan IB1000 LED light which draws 75 watts of power. That means the BP-U65 is conservative on watt hours or the electronics are better on the battery or the Sony BP-GL95 is old considering it is rated at 93 Watt Hours.
That is, by no means, a
definitive test as the BP-GL95 was powered down after 1 hour and 30 minutes when the battery light turned from Red to Orange. He powered the battery back up and found it still had power so this little test he did only indicates the BP-U65 is probably understated at 74.9 Watt Hours of use. The Ikan IB1000 LED should have killed the battery at 1 hour. The light is rated to draw 14.4 volts … same as the 2 batteries. Remember the BP-U65 will not be sold after the end of June on Amazon.jp.

B 4 mount on Sony FS7 camera

One of the factors on the Sony FS7 camera that seems to follow the Sony EX3 is that there is no power connector for a B4 ENG lens on the camera body. If you get the Metabones Ultra for full frame images on the FS7 you'll get the full S35 millimetre picture on the camera with power for canon ENG lens … that's a big plus for ENG shooters. If you don't have a B4 a power socket to Sony lens mount … how are you going to power a 2/3 ENG lens?
D-TAP is one way you can do so on the FS7 … so, I'd advise shooters with this camera to get a battery (BP-U65 for example) that has the ability to power the combination of ENG len and FS7. Allister Chapman has designed, with MTF, just such a B4 mount for the FS7 and a D-TAP cable to connect the ENG len to a D-TAP power source.
The BP-U65 battery will not be available on AMAZON.JP after the end of June … so, if you are considering a powerful battery that has been tested and proven to work on the FS7 camera … you will need to move quickly on the remaining BP-U65 batteries that are listed at present.
Good luck and Good shooting!
